Lipid Profile

lipid profile, also known as a lipid panel or cholesterol panel, is a blood test that measures the levels of different types of fats (lipids) in your blood. These lipids include:
Total cholesterol: This is a measure of all the cholesterol in your blood, including both LDL (low-density lipoprotein) cholesterol and HDL (high-density lipoprotein) cholesterol.

LDL cholesterol: This is often referred to as "bad" cholesterol because it can contribute to the buildup of plaque in your arteries.

HDL cholesterol: This is often referred to as "good" cholesterol because it helps to remove LDL cholesterol from your arteries.

Triglycerides: These are a type of fat that can also contribute to the buildup of plaque in your arteries.

Your healthcare provider may recommend a lipid profile if you have a family history of high cholesterol or heart disease, or if you have other risk factors such as high blood pressure, smoking, diabetes, or obesity. Depending on your results, your healthcare provider may recommend lifestyle changes, medications, or both to help lower your risk of heart disease.
